But this seems to be much less of a problem for young Israelis, since they generally serve in the army. Not only do they get another two or three years to mature before having to join the workforce, but the army offers them a kind of "real-world lite." The army gives them very basic workforce skills: discipline, obedience and leadership.

Israeli Arabs miss out on this good fortune. While most Israeli Jews serve in the army from 18 to 21, then spend another year traveling abroad and start preparing for real life - college and work - only at age 22, most Israeli Arabs begin that process at age 18, like their European peers. In practice, however, many young Arabs, especially women, aren't finding work.
